Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.2.0.754 dated 26.01.2012
Bug fixes:
- Changes of the "Text Color" in the Options dialog box did not have an effect on the layout
- Several issues have been fixed regarding Message Keys in connection with symbols
- The default color of symbols and multiplexers was not shown correctly in the list view (Elements)
- Removed a small memory leak
- For the variable data type "Bit" the properties "Data Format", "Output Format", "Minimum", "Maximum", "Automatic min-max calculation", and "Custom Decimal Places" ("Decimal Places") could be indicated. Now this isn't possible anymore
- In the Search dialog box, only those objects being supported by the symbol file format are displayed
- Removed the file type "csym" from the "Save as" dialog box
Improvements:

- Reworked the input mask "Message Key"; this includes a new dialog box for editing variable values
12.05.2011 - Version 3.0.7.323
Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.1.4.680 dated 26.07.2011
Bug fixes:
- The screentip of the "Open" command contained the URL in its footer
- A screentip was missing for the "About" command
Improvements:
- New command "Obfuscate" for encrypting a symbol file once. The encryption is one-way and the file cannot be decrypted afterwards. The command obfuscates all names in a symbol file
- Each value of an Enum can now have a comment
- The "Hexadecimal" setting in the "Edit J1939 CAN-ID" dialog box is now saved and restored
- The properties "Factor" and "Offset" can now also be set for variables of the Enum data type
12.05.2011 - Version 3.0.6.321
Bug fix:
- Variable names having a number as first character were treated as an error although the PCAN-Explorer meanwhile allows this syntax
01.04.2011 - Version 3.0.5.320
Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.1.3.676 dated 07.04.2011
Bug fixes:
- The default value of internal variables could not be set or altered. However, the display of default values that were set for internal variables via the PCAN-Explorer worked
- When interpreting default values of variables with data type "Char", the value 127 was displayed as ASCII character although this value is not defined for display
- When loading an arbitrary symbol file, the default values were not read
- The properties for symbol, multiplexer, and variable could be assigned with double names. However, changing the names via the Item Navigator trapped this error
- Using J1939 symbols (Type = J1939 PG), when selecting "NULL" in the "Edit J1939 CAN-ID" dialog, the source address was set to FF and not to FE. Opening this dialog again later lead to an error message "Invalid Source Address!"
- If a symbol was set to "Receive" and its type was changed to "J1939 PG", after changing the CAN ID with the "Edit J1939 CAN-ID" dialog, the CAN ID Hi was displayed with "-"
- When loading a faulty symbol file, only the line was indicated in the dialog showing the text, error code and description were missing
- If the symbol property "Unique Variables" was activated and right afterwards a virtual variable was added and another element was selected in the Item Navigator, an error message occured that the name was already defined
- When checking for unique variable names, virtual variables were not taken into account
- When File > New was invoked, the symbol properties were not reset
Improvements:
- The method for entering default values of variables and their display was improved by accommodating to the procedure and display in the PCAN-Explorer
- In the context menu of the Item Navigator the standard command for refreshing elements (F5) is now available
- The program caption now shows the file name in front of the program name
- To ensure the function of the CANdb import and export, the query of the license information was adjusted
- Multiplexer property "Valid for all Data Lengths" has been added
- Adjusted layout of the properties mask for multiplexers so that it suits the mask for symbols and it can include the new property
- Symbols with the "Valid for all Data Lengths" property can have variables
01.09.2010 - Version 3.0.4.310
Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.1.0.656 dated 07.09.2010
CANdb3 Addin: 3.0.2.48
Bug fixes:
- If the J1939 plugin was not registered in the license, the "Decimal Places" variable property was not visible
- After the commands "New" or "Close" the "Import" command could be executed even if the CANdb3 adding was not registered
- The quick access items under the ribbon control were not assigned for each command
- If in the Item Navigator a main node was selected and an element was added (e.g. a symbol), the context menu commands "Rename" and "Delete" could not be executed
- Automatic selection of a new enum value did not work for lists containing more entries than could be displayed in the list area. The enum value was not moved to the visible area
- A conflict was shown at export of a symbol file to CANdb format if the multiplexer name contained spaces although spaces are supported by the CANdb addin
Improvements:
- More than 64 variables can now be defined per symbol if the symbol file format is 5.0
- A warning "Too many variables defined" is shown if the symbol contains more than 64 variables and the symbol file format is 3.1
- When adding an enum value, it is determined automatically based on the highest enum value
- When editing enum values, several values can now be selected and deleted at once
- New commands for enum value sorting: "Sort By Values Ascending", "Sort By Values Descending". The sorting applies to saving and printing actions
26.11.2009 - Version 3.0.3.306
Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.0.4.641 dated 08.12.2009
Bug fixes:
- The width of the columns wasn't restored correctly
- Optimized drawing performance of the layout
- If for a J1939 PG symbol the "Valid for all Data Lengths" property was set and then "Multipacket" was activated, "Data Length" was temporarily shown with "-1". After reading that symbol again the value was shown correctly with "0"
- After program start, previously saved layout colors were dismissed and default colors loaded instead
- Display bugs when changing the symbol file format from 5.0 to 3.1
- Faulty Min-Max calculation of virtual variables that used an enum with negative numbers
- In symbol files with format 5.0, a symbol could only hold a single variable of the data type "double"
- Spin edit fields could lead to problems
- When executing "Print" or "Print Preview", the last changed value was not saved if the focus was in an edit field
- Minor text corrections
- In the symbol property "Decimal Places" could not been changed with Up/Down
- Labels in the symbols properties are now faded if the corresponding property cannot be used
- If in the variable's "Custom Decimal Places" property was changed, the status of the label of "Decimal Places" was not updated
- When using the key combinations [Ctrl]+[PageUp] or [Ctrl]+[PageDn] in the print preview, the page was switched as well as the zoom factor
- In properties areas, mouse usage was not correctly put into action
- Several corrections if large font sizes are used in the operating system settings
- The automatic adjustment of the tabs in the message keys properties caused display problems
- The properties page of a Message Key showed an error if a Message Key was assigned to a symbol containing an enum variable without a defined enum
- The bit length of the data type Enum is now checked
Improvements:
- Added setting for showing tabs in the ribbons
- The Quick Access commands are saved and restored
- When adding an enum value, the edit dialog is shown right away
- With the symbol file format 5.0 and upwards, variables can be positioned beyond the data length
- New and improved colors for variables in the layout view
- Removed error that happened at validation of bit positioning for variables placed beyond 64 bits (see 3.0.1.300)
- Removed memory leaks
14.10.2009 - Version 3.0.2.301
Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.0.3.628 dated 14.10.2009
Bug fixes:
- The last entry in a text field was not saved if it hadn't been confirmed before (e.g. by selecting another field) and if a command was executed
- An exception occured on handling of multiplexers in connection with additional variables
- Corrected tab order and labels in the Options dialog
Improvements:
- Improved layouts of the Variable/Virtual Variable and the Options dialog
- Removed the "Customize" context menu from the ribbon control
09.09.2009 - Version 3.0.1.300
Part of PCAN-Explorer 5.0.2.626 dated 13.10.2009
Bug fixes:
- When changing the symbol type of "J1939 PG" to "Standard" or "Extended" and the data length to greater than 8 bytes, the symbol's data length was not adapted
- After changing a symbol type to "Standard" or "Extended", the variables that were out of range were not marked as faulty. Changing the start position of those variables caused an error
- Trying to cycle the bit start position below 0 with a spin button caused a "Range Check Error" that did not disappear anymore
- After importing or closing a CANdb file some commands were not executable anymore
- Using the "Preview" in Vista caused an error message under specific circumstances
- Changing the "Long Name" property of a variable was not saved
- Changing the "SPN" property of a variable caused the contents to be written to the "Long Name" property
- When configuring the "Virtual Variables" column, the "Message Keys" column was shown
- When a file was changed outside the PCAN Symbol Editor, the corresponding message did not come up
- If a variable range of values was calculated automatically and afterwards the corresponding option "Automatic min-max calculation" was turned off, the range still was calculated automtically
- An enum value could not be edited after double-clicking it with the mouse because the dialog was not shown
- By just viewing an enum value with the edit dialog, the symbol file was marked as changed
- When editing an enum's properties it could happen that the values of another enum were used
- With the symbol format 3.1, Message Keys were not updated correctly in the item tree
- The synchronization of Message Key objects and the user inputs of Message Key properties was faulty
- At each saving of the windows size and coordinates the vertical height decreased
Improvements:
- Removed the linking to the PCAN-Explorer object model and remainders of the automation server completely, because interaction with the PCAN-Explorer is not needed anymore
- Restructured the status bar and added a panel for file status
- New "Multi Packet" property added to the symbol
- New "Raw" data type added to the variable property
- When opening a read-only file, this is now indicated accordingly in the file status panel. The save command is then deactivated
- Included the write-protection attribute in the error dialog, if an error occurs at loading of a symbol file
- Added four new validation errors: wrong symbol type, faulty data length (DLC), wrong data type, error on bit positioning beyond 64 bits
- When a CANdb file is opened via the Open dialog, it can be saved with the "Save as" command as a symbol file
- Variables can be positioned beyond DLC if the "Multipacket" attribute of the symbol is set and the symbol type is set to J1939 PG
- Optimized the display of elements
- The min and max value fields are not deactivated anymore if the bitlength is larger than 64 bits
- The maximum number of characters for the "Unit" property of a variable is now depending on the used symbol file format: 10 characters with file formats up to version 4, 16 characters with file formats from version 5
- The Message Key properties area "Symbolic" only shows symbols not of the type "J1939 PG"
- The Message Key properties area "Symbolic" only shows variables that are not of the type "Raw" and that are positioned within the first 64 bits
- Improved the texts of message boxes
- At initial start the size of the main window is set to 4/5 of the screen area
- The "Save as" command now causes an additional entry in the "Recent Files" list
- Further improvements of the English and German texts
