Description

The PCAN-Wireless Gateway DR allows the connection of different CAN busses over IP networks. CAN frames are wrapped in TCP or UDP message packets and then forwarded via the IP net from one device to another. The PCAN-Wireless Gateway DR provides one WLAN connection and two High-speed CAN interfaces. With its DIN rail casing and the support of the extended temperature range, the module is suitable for use in an industrial environment.

The configuration of the device is done via a comfortable web interface. Besides a variety of status information, settings for the device itself, for the communication interfaces, and for message routing are provided.

Configuration

The configuration of the gateways is done via a web interface. Therefore, the module must be connected to the PC via LAN or WLAN according to the model. Afterwards, a common web browser is suitable to access the device. The device‘s web interface opens and displays public information about the device status and the message forwarding. In order to configure the device, a login on the website is required. Depending on the hardware, corresponding settings are available.

CAN channel settings:

  • Selection of bit rates up to 1 Mbit/s from a preset list
  • Setup of user defined bit rates via register values
  • Status switching of the listen-only mode

WLAN interface settings:

  • Set the WLAN operating mode to Infrastructure (Client), Ad-Hoc, or Access Point
  • Automatic or manual setup of the device‘s IP address (IPv4) and the subnet mask
  • Connection to the wireless network
  • Configuration of the network encryption

Setup and management of the message forwarding:

  • Setup of the message forwarding between a CAN channel and LAN/WLAN (or vice versa)
  • Selection of the participating CAN channel
  • Definition of the LAN/WLAN station according to the IP address and the port
  • Selection of the transfer protocol TCP or UDP
  • Enabling, disabling, and editing of existing routes
  • Disabling the PCAN-Gateway Handshake to allow the connection to other devices

Properties of the message filtering:

  • Creating and managing filters via a new section of the web interface
  • Creating Filters with different options:
    • Filtering messages with 11-bit or 29-bit IDs
    • Support of range and mask filters
    • Optional inversion of the filter range
  • Assigning a filter to multiple routes

Devices with WLAN interface can be operated in Ad-Hoc mode and in Access Point mode from software version 2.5.0. Therefore, no additional access point is required for the connection of two PCAN-Wireless Gateway (DR) over WLAN.
