PCAN Explorer 3.2 compatibility

Postby IEC » Sat 13. Aug 2011, 17:56

I have been using PCAN Explorer 3.2 on a 32bit XP laptop for years, and have been perfectly happy with it. I no longer have the XP laptop due to a disagreement with heights and gravity -- so I purchased a new laptop and it is a 64bit Windows 7 platform, is there anyway to make my version of PCAN Explorer work?

Thanks for the help.

Hi,
the PCAN-Explorer 3 does not work on Windows 7 32 or 64 Bit Version.
You could try to use the PE3 in the XP-Mode of W7 (virtual-PC) which is part of the W7 Pro Versions.
This work fine with the PCAN-USB Interface (does not work with PCI based cards).

But please check up in front if you have the latest PE3 Version (Version 3.3.1.404), if not send a E-Mail with your serialnumber of yor PE3 to info[at]peak-system.com, and we send you the download for the latest PE3.

Please use only the latest drivers to install the CAN Interface on new PCs
(see http://www.peak-system.com - Support - Download packages)
Download the version for the CAN Hardware you use, unzip the files, and start the PeakOemDrv.exe to install the driver and the PCAN-View Monitoring Tool.

You also could update your PE3 to the latest Version PE5, which work fine on W7 32/64Bit. Here some more information: http://www.peak-system.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=83

Best Regards

Uwe

Thank you for the prompt response. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium edition with PCAN explorer 3.2.11.384. Additionally my primary concern is getting this operational with the USB Dongle (part number: IPEH-002022 04973).

Here is what I have done:
I have changed the Comatability Mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and installed the newest device drivers that you recommended. It appears that everything works fine so far :) , I will run an operational test and let you know if there appears to be anything odd.

Ok so the program itself appears to be running but I am unable to get data from the USB Dongle. I ran PCAN-View that came with the newest device drivers -- this is sending and receiving data correctly, so perhaps it is the issue that you identified earlier. I will send you an email with the pertinent information.

Thanks again.
Best Regards.

Hi,
this will not work. The PE3 on a W7 32/64Bit in XP mode (no VM) try to use some registry keys and other internal function which could not be work in W7. You could not store any configuration, use the NetCfg Tool etc. Also the complete timing wil not work properly. Please use the Virtuel Machine Mode (XP-Mode on W7 Pro) solution or upgrade to PE4 (32Bit W7) or PE5 (32/64Bit W7)

Regards
