PCAN-USB device with Windows 7

Postby hants1984 » Tue 3. Apr 2012, 16:19

Hi,

I am trying to run my interface software at Win 7 O/S. When I connect unit it give err msgs. Then I opened PCAN-View (basic free one), I found when I connect the CAN device (DUT) it continuously generate boot-up messages and don't respond to command. If I connect 2 or, more CAN device (DUT) then it give only 1 boot-up msg for each at power-up but still don't respond to commands. I tried the same DUTs with Vector CANcaseXL where there is no issue.

I loaded the driver today from Peak website version number: 3.4.0.9248. I checked my PC USB driver which is showing USB and USB2 enhanched.

I use CANcaseXL only for engineering diagnosis purposes but our manufacturing runs on PCAN-USB and also with our interface software we supply/recommand PCAN-USB device. So, the understanding the issue and solution to this is urgent to me. I would appreciate any right direction.

Thx

Hi,

do you use a terminated CAN cable? Do you use a USB extension cable or USB hub between PCAN-USB and your PC? Which baudrate do you use? Can you please post the serialnumber of your PCAN-USB module to see which version you are using. Latest pcan_usb driver version is 3.8.2, and not 3.4!

Thanks Micael,

I made sure the interface driver is 3.8 and it's working now with PCAN-View. But still not working with my LV based interface sotware. The application software have a folder where Pcan_usb.sys is saved, I guess LV dll use this to communicate with the interface. Can I just copy the latest one there or, it need to be registered to Windows system.

Hi,

which API do you use? PCAN-Light or PCAN-Basic?

Here the info, where you have to copy the dll (remove all local dlls):

Windows 32-bit systems:
32-bit DLL > Windows\System32

Windows 64-bit systems:
32-bit DLL > Windows\SysWOW64
64-bit DLL > Windows\System32

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the info. My labview program uses API PCAN_USB.dll version 1.3.5. I found the new download file contains PCANBasic.dll v 1.2.2.32. Where can I get PCAN_USB.dll latest that work will work with WIN XP and WIN 7

I updated my driver with pcan_usb.sys v3.8.2.10146. After that my software not even working in Windows XP. The application folder save a copy of PCAN_USB.dll 1.3.5 when it install then why it's not working.

Do I need to re-create the labview driver or, there are short cuts? Is 2 .dll files interfaces (I meant declarations, function name and arguments) are same.

Regards

Shan

Hi,

pcan_usb.dll V1.3.5 is to old to work with the newest driverversion 3.x. When your application was build on the PCAN-Light API, it will not work with the PCANBasic API, because those APIs are different.

You can download the latest PCAN-Light dlls and APIs from our support website:

http://www.peak-system.com/fileadmin/me ... -light.zip

Copy the dlls in the directory as written above, then your application should work again.

best regards

Hi Michael,

Many thanks. You are very helpful. My software is working now in Windows XP PC after copying the latest light API in application folder. I guess this should sort out Windows 7 O/S as well.
