This is the version history of the PCAN-Gateway software package. All improvements, bug fixes, and changes of the published versions are listed. The software for the PCAN-Gateway products with and without CAN FD support share a common source. For this reason, both version histories are very similar.

- Revision and definition of default values
- Erroneous values read from the config file are now corrected to their default values instead of their min/max values

- The default SJW value is now computed and can be 1 to TSEG2/2
- The default bit rate string now matches bit rates register values and bit rates from the bitrate selection list
- CAN:
- The limits of the Time Segment 1 (Phase Segment 1 + Propagation Segment) are now also validated when configuring the CAN interface

- Bug fixes:
- A route between a PCAN-Gateway and the Virtual PCAN-Gateway lost its connection if the associated CAN channel of the PCAN-Gateway has been deactivated and CAN messages were sent
- If a route has been established between a PCAN-Gateway and the Virtual PCAN-Gateway and the associated CAN channel has been deactivated, the CAN channel was activated via a Reset from PCAN-View
- Routes between a PCAN-Gateway and the Virtual PCAN-Gateway stopped working when sending during a Reset
- If routes were defined via the ini file and the values were set incorrectly as follows count_max < 0 and count = 0, this prevented existing routes from being deleted even when resetting to factory defaults
- In rare occations reload factory defaults was not working
- It was not possible to reset a CAN channel via PCAN-View
- It was possible to reactivated a switched off CAN channel by doing a reset in PCAN-View
Website Version 3.3.2
- Routes:
- A new route status can now be indicated: The new (yellow) warning status is set if the route has been established successfully but the data connection was closed. This can happen if the remote side was switched off later on
- Massive performance improvement for presenting routes
- In expert mode loopback routes from CAN 1 to CAN 2 and vice versa can be configured
- The port number 52957 used for device scans cannot be used for routes anymore
- Removed the route value FPP stats which was listed in Expert mode on Managed Routes
- Added µs to the CAN timeout displayed under managed routes in Expert mode
- Network > CAN:
- The selection lists for standard bit rates have been updated. Impossible values were removed and in general, a sample point of 80% is used
- The bit rates of the bit rate selection are now indicated with the sample point
- If CAN error reporting was enabled via JSON, the CAN error values for tx and rx are display on Network > CAN if the Expert display mode is used
- Device > Configuration: The form for uploading configuration files is now limited to files of the ini type

- Enhanced the confirmation text of the software update to warn about downgrades. It is recommended to export your configuration before a downgrade

- Fixed an issue causing problems to switch to Expert display mode
- Enhanced the description of the Public Dashboard that this formular can also affect the usage of the JSON interface
- Responsive web design for mobile devices:
- Fixed a problem with the presentation of the responsive navigation when using a display with a width smaller than 1024 px
- Confirmation boxes were presented to high on some mobile devices. With this, it was not possible to use the buttons on the bottom of the boxes
- General improvements
- The Device ID of the PCAN-Gateway that can be set with the windows software PCAN-View is now shown on the Start, Status, and Device pages. It can be updated with a reload button
- A warning message with a link to an update.log is shown on the start page if an software update has failed or is still in progress
- When the device is booting or reloading, the website will show a web page with a warning and will auto reload until the device is ready
- The Illuminate function was delayed by 3 seconds. This was removed
- Fixed a bug caused showing multiple confirm boxes when using the Reboot button

JSON Interface Version 1.6.1
- Routes:
- Added the new warning status for routes. This status has the number 6. It is set if the route has been established successfully but the data connection was closed. This can happen if the remote side was switched off later on
- Massive performance improvement for reading route information
- Configuring an empty port number or a port number using characters and special characters caused a HTML status error 500
- Loopback routes from CAN 1 to CAN 2 and vice versa can be configured
- The port number 52957 used for device scans cannot be used for routes anymore
- CAN Configuration: An empty clock in a bit rate string led to a website error 500

2022-02-16 - PCAN-Gateway Software Version 2.9.1
Please note: Version 2.9.1 is the last software package supproting the PCAN-Wireless Gateway (DR). These gateway products have been discontinued in 2023.

- The maximum number of routes can now be specified with the parameter count_max in the range of 0 to 64. Please note that processing 64 routes on the page Manage Routes can take up to 30 sec

- startup_delay: delay in seconds until the wireless interface gets started. This can help if many wireless gateways are powered at the same time
- monitoring_delay: delay in seconds after that the wireless interface status is checked. If the status is not "up" after that time, a reset of the interface is performed. This can be disabled if set to 0 (default)

Network > CAN
- Uses can now select from 3 options for configuring bit rates:
- Selection from pre defined lists
- Custom bit rates by setting the register values
- Custom bit rates by setting the clock frequency and all register values at once with a single string. The string can be created comfortably with our Bit Rate Calculation Tool or with PCAN-View. The clock frequency is fixed to 24 MHz for all PCAN-Gateways without CAN FD support
- The clock frequency is fixed to 24 MHz and indicated as an read only string
- The sample points are now indicated in the info table as well
- The user comments for CAN, Filters, and Routes are now filtered for line breaks. Those are removed since line breaks violate the *.ini configuration file format

JSON Interface Version 1.5.1
Improvements, changes, and bug fixes of website version 3.1.0 are included in the following list as well.
- Added a new device property for JSON named "can_fd_support" to get the information if the device supports CAN FD or not
- Standard bit rates now depend on the selected clock which is fixed to 24 MHz on PCAN-Gateways without CAN FD support. The JSON documentation shows all bit rates available depending on the clock
- The parameter manual_bitrate was renamed to br_def (bit rate definition). Enhanced the JSON interface to allow the old property name besides the new one
- Added a third bitrate definition mode (br_def) with the number 2. The value 0 is default. When using mode 2, the bit rate can be set with a single parameter string using the property br_def_string
- Updated the JSON interface documentation
- Swapped acceptance code and mask value for mask filters to match definition
Bug fixes:
- For mask CAN filters acceptance mask and code fields got swapped on web interface as well as over JSON interface!
- Route creation might hang on startup in some cases
- The remote peer got status update if the route was deleted
- Send routes did not to connect properly in some cases
- Import of broken .ini files caused a reset to factory defaults. An error message is thrown instead now
- Resetting CAN interfaces via the Virtual PCAN-Gateway could lead to crashes
- WLAN gateways only: The gateway was restarted to soon when changing from Micro Access Point to Infrastructured mode. Thus changes were not saved correctly
- The first character of the .ini file was modified on startup. This could cause on power loss during this write process
2020-08-17 - PCAN-Gateway Software Version 2.9.0
- PCAN-Wireless Gateways can now connect to hidden SSIDs too. For this, the new boolean parameter ScanSSID was added to the config.ini. It is set to 1 by default
- Added a new route connection frame type which adds a CRC32. This works only between two PCAN-Gateways. It does not work with the Virtual PCAN-Gateway at the moment. This frame type can be established via JSON or the config.ini
- Added new handshake commands DEV_SET_ID_REQ and DEV_GET_ID_REQ to set and read the Device ID. This can be done via the Virtual PCAN-Gateway (from version 2.0.0)
- INI file format version was updated to 1.5.0
- Bug fixes:
- The TCP_NODELAY flag is now explicitly set for server side too
- Fixed a route crash when disconnecting from a remote site under special circumstances
- Fixed a problem causing the website and JSON interface to not work properly after several hundred requests (no matter if incoming by JSON or website)
Website Version 3.0.0
- Control box below the navigation:
- Changed the name of the function "Status LED On" to "Illuminate" since there could be more than one LED
- If the JSON Shell view is activated, the text in the important box below the website navigation becomes a link to the Shell view. With this and the links in the top of the Shell view it is possible to jump between the Website and Shell view easily
- If the factory default login is still set, an information is displayed at the bottom of the navigation. This information is now a link to the page for changing the login
- Notes of routes and filters are now available via the icon on Status, Routing, Filters, and the Login page too

Network > CAN
- Revision of the CAN interface information listing
- Inserted the button for resetting the CAN channel into the table header as an icon
- The CAN features auto resume, triple sampling, loopback, and oneshot are now read out and displayed (Network CAN in Expert mode) depending on the information if they are supported by the device
- Changed the way, the sample point is displayed. Only the value from the bit rate register is displayed, like it is done with the JSON interface. The sample point is now also displayed in Normal user mode
- Changed the listing order of the CAN register parameters

- The limits of the CAN bit rate parameters are now determined by the PCAN-Gateway product type

Routing
- The overview now lists detected devices from the broadcast scan

- When connecting routes via UDP, the status LED displayed a wrong status for correctly connected Send routes

Managed Routes
- The information CRC, CRC Start Value, CRC Polyinomial and CRC Errors that can be set via the JSON interface are now displayed in Expert mode
- Now the values TCP Delay and TCP connected are only displayed if the protocol is TCP
- Changed the order of the displayed values in Expert mode
Add & Edit Route
- Handshake can now be switched on or off for routes with inverted connections. Inverted connections can be activated via the JSON interface
- Bug fix: The IP address of receive routes with inverted connections was not read correctly which caused an error when editing such routes
Device > Software Updates
- Added the direct download link for the correct software package
JSON Interface Version 1.3.0
- Routes can now transmit frames with a CRC32 checksum
- The CRC checksum information can be read with get route
- The CRC checksum values CRC_on, CRC_start_value, and CRC_polynom can be written with set route. Please note that those properties have default values which are used if nothing else is set
- Added new error codes for processing the CRC properties
- Added the reboot command along with documentation
- Enhanced the JSON Shell:The links in the header are now designed a little as buttons

2019-08-01 - PCAN-Gateway Software Version 2.8.1

JSON Interface Version 1.1.0
- Added the new CAN properties can_errors_rx and can_errors_tx. They can be called via "get can" or "get can can_errors_rx can_errors_tx"
- Added the new CAN property CAN_error_reporting. This number indicates if the error reporting for the CAN channel is active or inactive. If active, the values can_errors_rx and can_errors_tx are counted. This value is saved as "Enable_error_counter" in the config.ini file

Bug fixes:
- When switching to UDP while creating a route, the field FPP is displayed. When switching back, it was not hidden correctly
- CAN custom bit rate: If the calculated value was equal to the lower limit, the result was false and saving wasn't possible
- CAN-Status: If Listen-Only is active, the status is now displayed as OK (green LED)
- Broadcast scan now also works with Wireless Gateways running the µAP operation mode

2017-04-18 - PCAN-Gateway Software Version 2.6.0

Improvements:
- CAN traffic isn’t required to reconnect outgoing TCP routes anymore. Reconnection attempts are forced after a defined delay
- Improved the display of the route status. The information how many devices are connected to a receive route is now processed. If more than one is connected, a red LED is shown. The route would not work correctly in this case
- TCP Delay, a property of Send routes is now indicated on the manage routes web page. It is displayed in Expert mode by default and in Normal mode only if it differs from its default value (active)
- TCP Delay can be deactivated for Send routes in Expert mode
- New file format of .ini (1.3.1) file where the new delay can be defined per route as "Cdm"
- The port 45321 is reserved for the transmission of status information and is required perform the handshake between PCAN-Gateways. This information was added to the documentation and the port is now checked for this value when adding or editing a route
- Improved the listing of filters for the pages Add Route and Edit Route. The filter term and the user notes, if available, are now displayed as well
- Improved the listing of the CAN channels at the Add and Edit Route page. In addition to the channel number, the bit rate and user notes are displayed
- User notes for routes with a max 125 characters are now available. You can enter them while creating or editing a route
- User notes of routes are displayed at the page Manage Routes if they are defined
- Info icons were added in the table rows on Manage Routes and Manage Filters. They appear if the route or filter has user notes. Hover the icon to display them as a tooltip
Changes:
- The default operation mode will be Micro Access Point in the future because Windows doesn’t support the connection to Ad-Hoc networks since version 8.1. Information about this has been added to the documentation as well
- Manage Routes: Revision of the information displayed for each Route in Expert mode
- If the character # is used for the SSID or Netkey it causes an error because that character isn’t allowed for this
- Device > User Management: Also network interfaces that are not available are now listet in the Public Dashboard configuration. This change is required for coming features

Changes:

- Routes as well as filters are now shown with their index. This is a unique identification number
- Manages Routes shows detailed information in normal user mode as well
- The WLAN operation mode is now shown in the general information box

General Improvements:
- Help pages were added. You can access them via the new main menu entry "Help" or via the question mark icon on the other pages. You can open the corresponding help page in that case
- The web design of version 1.4 of the configuration website was improved. A flexible layout and advanced tooltips were implemented for usage on mobile devices

- Added a new page: Network >> WLAN Networks Scan that shows all available WLAN networks with name (SSID), encryption, and signal level. A single network can be selected for connecting your device. For this, the information is transferred to the WLAN configuration web page
- All encryption types (including WEP as well as no encryption) can now be selected on the WLAN configuration page
