The first identification of a hardware takes place when selecting a PCAN Channel. The name of a Channel handle gives information about the interface of the hardware.

The name above tells the API the PCAN hardware to connect to, which kind of bus it uses (USB), and that it is the first (01) hardware registered in a system. PCAN-Basic allows connecting following interfaces:
USB: Universal Serial Bus. Up to 16 channels.
PCI: Peripheral Component Interconnect (including ExpressCard hardware). Up to 16 channels.
LAN: Virtual PCAN-Gateway connections. Up to 16 channels.
Note that the way of how hardware is registered in a system depends on its controller driver and on the system itself. When several devices of the same kind are installed on a system (USB for example), by default it is not guaranteed that connecting to PCAN_USBBUS1 after a system restart will still connect to the same hardware.
Therefore, parameters are used to help on the detection of the right hardware.
The following parameters are used to identify the physical hardware to connect, for example when several devices are available for connection:
Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
Availability status of a PCAN Channel. | |
Device identifier parameter. | |
PCAN "hardware name" parameter. | |
Zero-based index of a CAN-Controller in a PCAN device. | |
Physical identification of an USB based PCAN Channel. | |
Remote address as a IPv4 formated string. | |
Information about PCAN channels attached to a system. | |
PEAK's device part number (IPEH number). |
