Today we are releasing the PCAN-GPS FD, a modern sensor module with CAN FD connection. The sensor technology of the new module is designed for the detection of position, orientation, and acceleration. The u-blox MAX-M10S satellite receiver for the navigation systems GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, and GLONASS can determine the position with an accuracy of up to 1.5 meters. A magnetic field sensor, an acceleration sensor, and a gyroscope from STMicroelectronics provide the data for orientation and acceleration. For the transmission of the sensor data, the module is equipped with a CAN connection that supports the CAN FD standard in addition to classic CAN.
The processing and transmission of sensor data by the integrated Arm Cortex M4 microcontroller can be programmed as desired. For this, PEAK-System provides a user-friendly development package for C and C++ with various programming examples. The resulting firmware is transferred directly to the module via the CAN bus. The PCAN-GPS FD is delivered with a ready-to-use standard firmware that sends all sensor data periodically to the CAN bus.
With the new development of the PCAN-GPS FD, we have enhanced another product from our portfolio with CAN FD support. The previous PCAN-GPS has proven itself in countless customer projects and application areas since its market launch at the end of 2014. Existing firmware projects can be ported to the PCAN-GPS FD with the help of the new programming examples.
