Entering Automotive Ethernet

New PAE-Media Converter simplifies Automotive Ethernet development, validation, and fault simulation


With the new PAE-Media Converter, we’re once again expanding our in-vehicle networking portfolio with our first Automotive Ethernet product. The compact device converts between 100BASE-T1 or 1000BASE-T1 Automotive Ethernet and standard 100BASE-TX or 1000BASE-T Ethernet, enabling direct connection to existing development, analysis, and validation environments. 

Designed for 100 Mbit/s and 1,000 Mbit/s domains, the converter uses DIP switches for hardware-based speed selection and requires no additional software for setup. For automated test systems, an optional USB API provides remote control capabilities. One core feature is the controlled physical link interruption. Engineers can trigger interruptions on the device or via API to simulate reproducible fault conditions without unplugging cables, reducing manual effort and connector wear. 

The device combines H-MTD and MATEnet connector support in one unit, reducing the need for adapters. An integrated frame generator supports link validation and wiring tests, while LEDs provide feedback on link status, signal quality, and errors. With its aluminum housing, -40 °C to +85 °C operating range, USB-C or 6–36 V DC power supply, and compatibility with standard Ethernet tools, the PAE-Media Converter is built for practical integration into automotive test benches and engineering workflows.
