News 2026 03 PCAN USB XL

The PCAN-USB XL is our first USB interface supporting the new standard CAN XL which enables bit rates up to 20 Mbit/s and payloads up to 2,048 bytes per frame. Nevertheless, the interface is backward-compatible and can be used to connect to CAN CC (Classic CAN) and CAN FD buses. The PCAN-USB XL features galvanic isolation up to 500 V, switchable CAN termination, and an extended operating temperature range. With this, the interface offers engineers a simple and reliable solution for working with next-generation CAN networks in lab and field applications.

The PCAN-USB XL was previously available exclusively within the PCAN-XL Starter Bundle. This all-in-one bundle for getting started with the new standard CAN XL included the Early Access version of PCAN-Explorer 7, the PCAN-Basic API 5, and Windows drivers. 

After nearly a year, we have officially released device drivers and APIs with CAN XL support for both, Windows and Linux. At the same time, PCAN-Explorer 7 is available as an independent software product - allowing engineers to choose the combination that best fits their development and test setup. With today's release of PCAN-USB XL, we are discontinuing the PCAN-XL Starter Bundle.
