PCAN-Explorer 7 supports CAN CC, CAN FD, and CAN XL communication, but has so far not supported segmented messages according to ISO 15765 (ISO-TP), the transport protocol UDS diagnostics build on. Engineers who wanted to communicate with an ECU on diagnostic level therefore needed a second tool or custom code. With version 7.2, PCAN-Explorer now supports ISO-TP and UDS.
The new UDS Transmitter Add-In lets users send and receive segmented and unsegmented UDS messages, similar to how PCAN-View works for CAN. It is a low-level tool: it sends and receives messages but does not simulate ECU behavior. The new UDS Downloader Add-In adds an automation layer on top of the Transmitter Add-In. Users can build sequences of UDS requests and play them back one after another, depending on the ECU's responses - a common requirement for diagnostic use cases such as ECU flashing, which typically depend on specific timing and fast sequences. Templates are available for common UDS services, and additional services and sequences can be configured manually. Within the 7.2 release, the UDS download and transmit functionalities are available as exclusive, built-in Beta versions – free of charge and for any type of license. The Add-Ins are available in the Add-In Manager.
PCAN-Explorer 7.2 also adds the import and export of network configurations, so called Nets. A Net connects hardware and software, for example a PCAN-USB interface and PCAN-Explorer - and previously had to be set up manually on every PC. Users can now save, import, and export these configurations, making it easier to reuse the same setup across multiple computers. The latest version of PCAN-Explorer additionally includes French-language support. It is available now as an update for all existing PCAN-Explorer 7 users as well as new customers.
