PCAN-Gateway Software Version History

The software for the PCAN-Gateways products with and without CAN FD support share a common source. For this reason, both version histories are mostly very similar. This version history is for the products: IPEH-004010, IPEH-004011, IPEH-004020, and IPEH-004020-A.

2022-02-16 - PCAN-Gateway Software Version 2.9.1

  • Revision of the configuration file format
    • Format version was updated to 2.0.1
    • Version information is now written at the beginning of the general section
    • Added new parameters for several settings
    • Revision of the parameter names
    • The maximum number of routes can now be specified with the parameter count_max in the range of 0 to 64. Please note that processing 64 routes on the page Manage Routes can take up to 30 sec
    • New WLAN parameters:
      • startup_delay: delay in seconds until the wireless interface gets started. This can help if many wireless gateways are powered at the same time
      • monitoring_delay: delay in seconds after that the wireless interface status is checked. If the status is not "up" after that time, a reset of the interface is performed. This can be disabled if set to 0 (default)

Website Version 3.2.1

Improvements, changes, and bug fixes of website version 3.1.0 and JSON interface 1.4.0 are included in the following list as well.

Network > CAN
  • Uses can now select from 3 options for configuring bit rates:
    • Selection from pre defined lists
    • Custom bit rates by setting the register values
    • Custom bit rates by setting the clock frequency and all register values at once with a single string. The string can be created comfortably with our Bit Rate Calculation Tool or with PCAN-View. The clock frequency is fixed to 24 MHz for all PCAN-Gateways without CAN FD support
  • The clock frequency is fixed to 24 MHz and indicated as an read only string
  • The sample points are now indicated in the info table as well
  • The user comments for CAN, Filters, and Routes are now filtered for line breaks. Those are removed since line breaks violate the *.ini configuration file format
  • Device > Configuration: Improved the import and parsing of configuration files
  • Updated the website documentation
  • Swapped acceptance code and mask value for mask filters to match definition

JSON Interface 1.5.1

Improvements, changes, and bug fixes of website version 3.1.0 are included in the following list as well.

  • Added a new device property for JSON named "can_fd_support" to get the information if the device supports CAN FD or not
  • Standard bit rates now depend on the selected clock which is fixed to 24 MHz on PCAN-Gateways without CAN FD support. The JSON documentation shows all bit rates available depending on the clock
  • The parameter manual_bitrate was renamed to br_def (bit rate definition). Enhanced the JSON interface to allow the old property name besides the new one
  • Added a third bitrate definition mode (br_def) with the number 2. The value 0 is default. When using mode 2, the bit rate can be set with a single parameter string using the property br_def_string
  • Updated the JSON interface documentation
  • Swapped acceptance code and mask value for mask filters to match definition

Bug fixes:

  • For mask CAN filters acceptance mask and code fields got swapped on web interface as well as over JSON interface!
  • Route creation might hang on startup in some cases
  • The remote peer got status update if the route was deleted
  • Send routes did not to connect properly in some cases
  • Import of broken .ini files caused a reset to factory defaults. An error message is thrown instead now
  • Resetting CAN interfaces via the Virtual PCAN-Gateway could lead to crashes
  • WLAN gateways only: The gateway was restarted to soon when changing from Micro Access Point to Infrastructured mode. Thus changes were not saved correctly
  • The first character of the .ini file was modified on startup. This could cause on power loss during this write process

2020-08-17 - PCAN-Gateway Software Version 2.9.0

  • PCAN-Wireless Gateways can now connect to hidden SSIDs too. For this, the new boolean parameter ScanSSID was added to the config.ini. It is set to 1 by default
  • Added a new route connection frame type which adds a CRC32. This works only between two PCAN-Gateways. It does not work with the Virtual PCAN-Gateway at the moment. This frame type can be established via JSON or the config.ini
  • Added new handshake commands DEV_SET_ID_REQ and DEV_GET_ID_REQ to set and read the Device ID. This can be done via the Virtual PCAN-Gateway (from version 2.0.0)
  • INI file format version was updated to 1.5.0
  • Bug fixes:
    • The TCP_NODELAY flag is now explicitly set for server side too
    • Fixed a route crash when disconnecting from a remote site under special circumstances
    • Fixed a problem causing the website and JSON interface to not work properly after several hundred requests (no matter if incoming by JSON or website)

Website Version 3.0.0

    • Changed the name of the function "Status LED On" to "Illuminate" since there could be more than one LED
    • If the JSON Shell view is activated, the text in the important box below the website navigation becomes a link to the Shell view. With this and the links in the top of the Shell view it is possible to jump between the Website and Shell view easily
    • If the factory default login is still set, an information is displayed at the bottom of the navigation. This information is now a link to the page for changing the login
  • Notes of routes and filters are now available via the icon on Status, Routing, Filters, and the Login page too
  • Revision of the website documentation
  • Enhanced the mobile web design

Network > CAN
  • Revision of the CAN interface information listing
    • Inserted the button for resetting the CAN channel into the table header as an icon
    • The CAN features auto resume, triple sampling, loopback, and oneshot are now read out and displayed (Network CAN in Expert mode) depending on the information if they are supported by the device

    • Changed the listing order of the CAN register parameters
  • Revision of the CAN interface configuration and custom bit rate forms
    • The limits of the CAN bit rate parameters are now determined by the PCAN-Gateway product type
    • The limits are now checked with HTML5 properties
  • Minor bug fixes and code optimization

  • The overview now lists detected devices from the broadcast scan

  • Now the values TCP Delay and TCP connected are only displayed if the protocol is TCP
  • Changed the order of the displayed values in Expert mode

Add & Edit Route
  • Handshake can now be switched on or off for routes with inverted connections. Inverted connections can be activated via the JSON interface
  • Bug fix: The IP address of receive routes with inverted connections was not read correctly which caused an error when editing such routes

Device > Software Updates
  • Added the direct download link for the correct software package

JSON Interface Version 1.3.0

  • Routes can now transmit frames with a CRC32 checksum
    • The CRC checksum information can be read with get route
    • The CRC checksum values CRC_on, CRC_start_value, and CRC_polynom can be written with set route. Please note that those properties have default values which are used if nothing else is set
    • Added new error codes for processing the CRC properties
  • Added the reboot command along with documentation
  • Enhanced the JSON Shell:The links in the header are now designed a little as buttons
